Everything is set and packed for the next cycling expedition in Japan tomorrow. 1 month cycling adventures begin by landing in Tokyo and travelling by train to Saporro where I start cycling along the Japanese 4 main islands all the way down to Nagaski. A distance of 2200km is expected to be done in the next month in extreme weather conditions now in Japan, around 35 degress C. and 90% humidity. Some strong winds and storms in September are also expected and hopefully without earthquakes. I am expecting like always to meet nice and positive people and untouched nature and animals autochthon for Japan. Japanese culture has always atracted me and here I am just in a about to experience this in person and reality. It all depends on me, how I will think about and comprehend things coming on my way. Anyway, if you dont go, you dont have a story. Lets see.

If you have any wish that you want to make true or any concern about Japan and their culture and other things, that I might fulfil on my way across Japan, please do let me know over my site or drop me a line on my email. I will try to visit, meet people you know there and pass them your regards.

On the way I expect a lot of things to happen, but one of the most important is that I will try to bring some happiness to the faces of the people I will meet. For sure there are many people especially kids around the world and also in Japan that need help and I hope I can be part of it to help them by donating some of the money I raised and got from my donators and people willing to help. We need to realize that we are all one and I havr chance to help people (kids) that need our help in Japan. Here I am appealing to you to donate something according to your power and I promise to bring this fully in the hands of those who really need this. Please feel free to do so using Paypal donation on my home site (www.bikingtheglobe.net) or using international bank transfer on my bank account (all info as well on my site under menu equipment).

I will keep you up-to-date thru my site and Radio Slovenia International who is following me all around at all times. Now its time to relax a bit before a long journey begins.

Stay tuned.,

21.08.2010 2010 Review

In the last months it was quite stressful because I was a lot on the way and could have time to update you from my adventures. But everything unfinished must finish once, so I decided to do it now, before departing to a next expedition to Japan. Seriously I started cycling this year in April and all the way till today. In the meantime I travelled thru Croatia, Italy, Slovenia (still some untouched place to visit), some places of Austria, Hungary and top of this I climbed to the queen of the Dolomites, Marmolada. This is past, now I am just in about to depart to the land of the rising sun – Japan. But let me briefly picture you some of my adventures this year in the following:

Slovenia:

Trip around Prekmurje (plains in Slovenia) is quite interesting, though the terrain is most of the time flat. Nevertheless, you can collect quite lots of kilometres and see a lot in one day. At the beginning of the year I visited border triangle (SLO, A, HUN) from slovenian side near to Trdkova village. This point on a small hill is marked with a stone and you can reach it freely form all three sides. I have finished the tour by meeting a nice family which invited me in the house by offering me food and drinks (vine of course).

In April I planned to visit Ljubljana by bike from Maribor, but on the half way I needed to stop as I was complety exhausted and down. I stopped by the Šmartinsko lake, where I recovered and returned by train.

Another trip followed the cycling path along the river Mura from Spielfeld in Austria towards Gornja Radgona in Slovenia. It s beautiful trip. You can also have a nice view inbetween form the outlook tower. I cycled maybe 45 km of the whole Mura cycling path which is 360 km long from the vers source in Austrian Alps (have done this last year).
In Gorenjska region (northwest of Slovenia), where Alps are situated, I discovered together with Suzana and Nina the beauties of this region. We ascented to the plateu Pokljuka. We also visited some of the slovenian most beautiful lakes like Bohinj and Bled, there was a small pond named Kreda also included. We cycled the Radovna valley thru and ascented to the mountian pasture Klek (1556m). It was tough ascent but worth. There were lots of paths in the woods going different directions so it was easy to miss the right way. In spite of map we have been lost and later found the right way out of it. Shit happens all the time…

In Bela krajina, another region in south most east of Slovenia, I discovered some of the untouched places in this region. The river Klopa, in length of 362 km, which borders Slovenia and Croatia, is extremely beuatiful and fascinating. Sleeping by the river is free. If you find a time, just take a walking path from Damelj to Radenci, where you will have a chance to walk next to Kolpa and be in the woods all the times. By crossing one of the dyke I wedged into the mud and need 20min to come out. The real adventure was sleeping in the hay barn by the 2-house village Hrib, as the rain started to fall in the night. The fear of bears in the region should be felt if you this places. There were none around that night, unfortunately. Visiting fire-brigade festive party next day with half local Mojca, a friend of mine, was quite an atraction, as the locals are not used of such visitors around. As I am already explaining adventurous along the river Kolpa, there was another trip down there. It started in Ljubljana thru Cerknica into Čabar (Croatia) and over to Zamost (border to Slovenia), where nice police offiers let us thru with Suzana. They should not, because you need permission on schengen border if the border crossing is not international. But were lucky. After 140km we have settled next to Kolpa and had a refreshing night show in the river with a deep sleep following. The next day was similar returning thru different way to Ljubljana. Ascent of 1140m was just a right dose fot that day by closing up with 113km. Both days we were listening from the locals about the bears walking around (this region Bela Krajina and Dolenjska are known by having lots of bears), but unfortunalely we weren't that lucky to see any of them. The trips was accompanied by a very nice sunny weather.

In June and July I have sucessfully passed the exam for a tour cycling guide supported by my own local alpine club Maribor Matica. This was my first exam for cycling in my life. Now I am ready, prepared and educated to guide the cycling tours around Slovenia. You will be posted when smth happens after returning from Japan. Till now I have been cycling according to the principle »learning by doing«, but on this course I have good some good tips and knowledge about guiding and the whole phylosophie in the background for guiding. It was quite helpful. I hope that also my input wa helpful for all other participants and that they have profited from it.

Croatia:

This is a chapter for itself, better to say people are something amazing. They still live with a princple »sporty slowly«. My first biking tour was planned from Šibenik to Zagreb, but due to heavy rains that were going on a 3rd day, I had to cancel one part of it and ended up in the train station in Vrhovine near Plitivička lakes. From the guy regulating the rail traffic I was told many things during my 6h stay on the station, as the station is small and not many trains are driving thru. It was funny, coz we also cooked together and watched Formula 1 race :--)  I came actually very wet on the station and had a chance to get dry in these 6 hours. Otherwise, on my first day I sleep near Zadar by one bosnian host in the garage on a pin-pong table. It was quite comfortable. I got the chance also to shower and some food, but… (i am vegan). Anyway, this was luxury.

There was another trip in Croatia, exactly in Istria. I started in Koper, our main port city and countinued along the coast all the way down to Poreč, Vrsar, Limski channel. In May the sea was till quite refreshing cold, perfect for swimming (for the brave ones). I accomodated on the beach in Koversada camp of course not checking-in but like this, free of charge not saying anobody a word. It was perfect falling to sleep by hearing waves hitting the coastal stones. The next day I took off road cycling path thru the wood from Vrsar to Lim. Amazing. Later I passed tinjan, Karojba and Oprtalj, were sun became so strong starting to killing me. Afterwards on the border between SLO and CRO I had an half an hour long conversationg and discussion with the police if I can cross the border (again not an international border crossing, so only local with permission can do it). They let me into SLO and I was saved some extra 30km of cycling as I was already pretty much tired. In Koper my 2nd Mom funished me with a great and delicious dinner, so I recovered in the next few hours.

Croatian expeditions are documented foto gallery here, video gallery here and with maps and descriptions here.

Medžimurje (region between river Drava and Mura):

Normally around the time of most important slovenian holiday, June 25h (Statehood Day), a  group of cyclist from the club od nonsmokers gather every year and do some cycling for some days around Slovenia. They do this now already for 26 years. It was my 2nd year joining this event. This year we departed on a road around Medžimurje. 46 cyclists from all around Slovenia gathered in Pragersko (near Maribor) and left direction to Ptuj (the oldest city in Slovenia). There were a lot of women present, as the terrain was quite flat, with some ups and downs (hills). This kind »organised« travel 4-day event is very funny, as we split in few groups and cycle in own tempo, which means no hurry and with a lot of stops and breaks. Easy going. This makes the trip more interesting and people are relaxed. In the evening or on main meeting point we gather again and exchange stories that happend in last few hours. Its funny to hear other people's experiences. Normally we accomodate on hay barns, fire stations, by locals , tenting or just outside under the dark sky. People are of age between 30 and 72 (Jože Marolt, our legend and beginner of this trips). So this year's trip followed the way from Pragersko to Ptuj and then to Ormož, where we finished 1 day of the trip and accomodated in Središčle ob Dravi. The 2nd day we crossed the border to Croatia and passed Čakovec city and gathered in Legrad, the confluence of river Drava and Mura. Very beautiful surroundings. Its a must to visit when you are in this region. We had some funny people in the group like Albert who took care that we laughed all the time by saying jokes all the time. It was also funny to see who few people became scared when a local dog began to run after us. In this case one need to be stronger and calm and with ignoring you stop the dog barking and attacking. Afterwards we experienced some rain showers and finished the day near Ludbreg next to the football stadium, where girls that were with us cleaned the area under the roof we stayed. We also had toilets on our disposal, again luxurious travelling. :--)  the 3rd day we moved towards Zavrč (SLO-CRO border) and on the way we passed Varažin, very nice city with a lots of culture. After Varaždin we stopped in arboretum and had a nice time spending looking diversity of plants and flowers growing there around incl. Ginko tree and some other very rares trees from all over the world (this is situated in Vinica just before the CRO-SLO border. On SLO side we have got a tip to settle in a country pub Pungračič in Slovenske gorice, and falled to sleep just under the dark blue sky with lots of stars. The last day was very sunny and we had some ups and downs (hilly terrain) at the beginning before we hit the city of Ptuj again and said goodbye to all other participants and left directon to Maribor. The rest of the group took a train to their homes around Slovenia. Maribor team had a another 25km of cycling along the river Drava which I havent heard of it till know. On the way home we stopped many time and once we were hosted from one friend, where we ate and drink again. We finished the trip by having 355 km behind us and see you next year. Anyone is welcome to join, just bring some good will and thats all.

Euro tours (Italy, Austria):

I have done 2 tours in Austria this year so far. The one and the longest was near Graz, the highest peak called Schöckl. With ex working colleagues Gerhard and Jürgen we started in Graz and followed the way up constantly until we reached the top of the mountain (1290 m asl). Descent was fantastic and very speedy up to 80 km/h but quite called in my knees as I didnt have long sleeves. I survived. Another trip in Austria was around Plabtusch, another hill next to Graz, knows as the hill under which the tunnel (Autobahn) is going thru.
Italian expedition from Ancona to Koper (Slovenia) in distance of 500 km followed in June. This expedition was smth special, not like every other. You know italians, they dont understand english and are often smth special and dont bother for others. On the very first night I crossed Adriatic see from Zadar (Croatia) to Ancona (Italy) by a ferry boat over night. As I was late, I was left only two seat joined together on a boat to take some rest over night. But I am already used to it. Next morning I started to cycle along the italian riviera towards Trieste and Koper in Slovenia. The road was mostly flat but there we time to time some hills to cross. Very nice panoramic road from Pesaro was a good attraction, where I stopped in the restaurant and asked if they can cook me my food I brought with me. Of course they accepted by request as I was almost the only customer there. At the end we had some fun situations to discuss although they didnt know what I was telling them in english and at the same time I didnt understand italian (yet). Few km later I stopped on a very sharp curve on the main road where at one moment a group of four-wheelers passed. One of them rolled along the road and the driver falled on the head. It was horrible to see this infront of my eyes. Immediately I stepped towards the guy laying on the road and their friends immediately secured the road. I found out they are germans and took my first-aid kit out my bags and helps him to cover the wounds and very bad looking abrasions on his skin. Later when we splitted I had a the similar situation. I wanted to cycle upwards the stairs and at one moment the bicycle slipped on on one stair and I couldnt get my feet out of the SPD pedals. It means I rolled down the stairs together with a bike. It looked innocent but in the middle and ring finger were painful. Right away I took care to get some ice cubes and hold them my palm and on the fingers in order the swelling not to get bigger. I cycled like this (with one hand) still for another two days. It was a bit painful but you get used to cycle with one hand. Later in the evening I stopped in one of the camps in Cesenatico and was asked to pay 25 eur for the tenting. It was not even the season, so I refused to stay there and moved to the next one where I was offered one night free. Lession, question doesnt cost much. I did 150km on this very first day. Last two days I beated my personal lond distance recored and did 170 km two days in a row (with one hand on the steering wheel).  The sencond day it was quite sunny and hot with lots of humidity in the air, so I hardly did it till Chioggia near Venice, where I took a ferry boat from one to another island south of Venice. On the first one I paid and the rest i didnt need, as nobody checked and I also didnt say anyhitng of course who would? Name me one!!! I also passed very famous turist resort in Rimini. I settled again with saying a word on a reception at one camp near Jesolo. On the next day early in the morning few guards found out that I was camping free of charge they kicked me out of the camp. They were pretty angry and I was smiling and »disgraced« said I am sorry, I am just a cyclist passing here through. On the way to Trieste I stopped on a petrol station and meet two young british cyclist with whom I travelled together to Trieste afterwards. Not far before Trieste we crossed the river and stopped by to get some refreshing moments in it, and relax. In Trieste we found out that Italians dont serve pasta before 7pm in the evening, what pissed us off as we were there at 5pm very hungry. I splitted and continued my way to Koper for another 35km where I meet Metka, my second Mom who prepaired a live saving dinner for me. I lost around 5500 callories on this very hot day on the sea side. After returning back home I took X-ray of my right arm and found out I broke knuckle between middle and ring finger. Now it is almost recovered but still I am working on it.

As we are already discussing Italy adventures, there was another expedition going on in July in Italy. Suzana, Drago and me left to climb Marmolade, the queen of the Dolomites. The mountain is 3443m high and we had some preparations one day before to climb Piz Boe (3152m asl), a mountain in neighbouring valley near Cortina di Ampezzo, to get used on a thin air. Very nice views around the Dolomites followed on top of the moutain. We spend the night in the woods at the bottom of the mountain by tenting. The next day we started to climb by Lake de Fadaia on a 2000m above the see level. Ascent was around 5.5h on a very dangerous slopes of the mountains (wedges and wires). Descent was followed along the glacier and we enjoyed pretty much the strong sun and some snow still on the northern slopes of the mountains. On the way back home we set the goal for 2011 and that is the highest mountain of Europe, Elbrus in Caucasus mountain range, 5642m asl.

23.12.2009 Purifying the Mind and Body
0

It has been a while since my last writing, I think September 2009. If you wonder, I did not sleep, I was not hijacked and I did not disappear from the planet, I just followed the need towards the immediate recovery of my muscular tissues in the hip region. Few days after the announcement of postponing I took a flight to India, of course without the bike. I went directly to the Ashram of Sri Sathya Sai Baba, my gretest spiritual teacher. I took 5 weeks rehabilitation time to stay there. They say that everything happens for a reason, as this has happened. If you dont know who Sai Baba is and about his teacing and work, please read THIS first and get acquainted before continuing to read. The Ashram is located in the small village called Putaparthi, 160 km nortwest of Bangalore, approx. 3h drive from the airport. The place is holy and miracles happen on a daily basis, if only you stay in the awarness. They started to happen also to me from the very beginning. The body cleaning process began where I felt very bad, with no energy and my thoughts were acidified. When the process of deblocking finished, the energy began to flow constantly and continuously throughout the body and mind. The energies in the ashram and especially in the Mandir (temple) were powerful. All of that strongly influenced me and my hip region. Balancing the pain between healthy and nonhealthy hip was going on during all 5 weeks. You wont believe, but with positive thinking one can reach very high level of consciousness, actually everything, because nothing is impossible. THINK POSITIVE. Everyone has ups and downs during his/her own lives, but be ware to think positive at all times if possible, and you will be surprised on the results. As one calms his/her mind and steps away from the material everyday life and accepts that he/she is not the body nor the mind, it becomes possible that one touches and feels his/her eternal and unchangable soul (atma), which is inhabitated in our body and uses our mind during our live here on Earth. At this point some frightful situations that we supress during everyday life comes up and gives us unpleasant frame of mind. Now is the time to work on ourselves in sense of cleaning of old habits and patterns that are inhabitated in us. It is very difficult to talk about this personally, because everyone has its own path that needs to be followed in order to stay alive, aware, healthy and full of energy. I ask myself many times, what do I need this, but at the end you find out that everything happens for the reason, we only need to find it or other people show us if we stay in the fully aware of the situations that happen around us.

In the last week of sharing the room with my friend Igor I felt like going cycling a bit and did some dozen miles around thhis beautiful country and pure nature. The bike I rented was not so comfortable and well equipped as mine at home. Actually, it was just the opposite, it had only one gear, not adjustable steering wheel and uncomfortable (rigid) seat. As the seat so was my buttocks after reaching the goal. It was extremly hot and very dry air. Inspite of all, as I crossed the countryland, people were saying hi at all times and when I stopped there was not a time when not at least 5-10 people gathered around me and bagged either for the pen or money...I distributed some among the children, that were most interested in me and my cycling efforts. They are normally not used to see white man crossing their village on the bike. You should see these children when I gave them a pen, they were so happy. They say, the less you have, the less problems you have and consequently you have the less to loss (lower the fear from loss). In the eyes of these children really tell you they dont have that fear, although they live in difficult life conditions, sometimes even the water is not supplied in eough quantities and quality. They all deserve this and Sai Baba has done a great job in past 10-20 years to raise the living standard of many surrounding villages.

According to the weather conditions I need to drink fresh and only bottled water every 2-3 miles to maintain the level of water in the body. It was extremly hot and dry. I did not have major difficulties while cycling thru the villages and towns, probably because I thought only positive, so I didnt atract any unpleasant situations. Thee nature was very beautiful, full of stones of different shapes, lakes, fields and people manually working on them and waving me, jezer, spacious meadows and some crowaded villages and cities. Anyhow, I was so much surprised and positively astonished by cycling throughout the country that I need to repeat the cycling again, of course more prepared, with my own bike and all the country.

I found the indian rehabilitation very successful and efficient for my body and mind, but I am not fully thru yet, so I cannot make cycling plans for 2010 at this point. I definitely will be back but first stage will for sure be the one I postponed from Slovenia to Syria (Damask) in length of 3000 miles. Carefully without heavy loads on my hip reagion I do train and get myself again the shape.

Some photos from India can be seen in the Photo Gallery HERE.

02.09.2009 Expedition postponed due to injuries

In order to be sure my body is in the same shape as my mind before departing towards Middle East, I recently visited some medical doctors to check two long lasting pains I am suffering for the last few months. Findings are not much promising. I have enthesopathy of the right hip region. This refers to a disorder of entheses (bone attachments) in this region. The codnition is inflammatory. Diagnosis is given and ultrasound therapy is recommended to be done on this region as well as futher (long) distance cycling with heavy loading of the muscles, what I have on the road,  for the period until the body fully recoveres, is strongly dissuaded. The pain is present since January 2009. Besides there is another pain present in my shoulder, which refers to an disorder in which the shoulder capsule, the connective tissue surrounding the glenohumeral joint of the shoulder, becomes inflamed and stiff, and grows together with abnormal bands of tissue, called adhesions, greatly restricting motion and causing chronic pain. this is called adhesive capsulitis of shoulder (called also frozen shoulder). The cause for both is probably heavy loading during cycling in the past and probably some old injuries. For the next few months I will be recovering until I continue my project and go on with the cycling. In a word, dont worry, this will change and everything is gonna be allright soon. With this sentence i am officially postoponing my futher cycling expeditions until my body fully recovers. Believe me it was not easy to expect this, but nature is nature and always win. You can be successful only when both, body and mind, are in harmony.
Dates for future travelogues, from my past travellings around the world, will be promtly announced on this site beginning in autumn 2009.

Last weekend Grossglockner has fallen. We did it. Together with a friend Drago, we did a good job, climbing to the top of Austria - Grossglockner (3798 m). Fist day we succeeded to Johann Hut (3454m) and the day later to the top. It was a sunny and bright Sunday morning, same view as last year on the top of Mont Blanc. The air was a bit thin, but slowly you could manage it. The way back we have done over Salm- and Glörer Hütte.

Photos can be seen HERE and video from the top HERE.

11.06.2009 Bees fly with more than 35 km/h

I had few more days to cycle, so I spontaneously decided to go on and cycle towards south (Swiss) from Bodensee. There were waterfalls on river Rhein to see in Schaffhausen. On the way I met a nice family from Swiss, all cycling. They told me they have a tradition once per year to circle the Bodensee in distance of 220 km by bike all together. How nice. After 30 km of cycling we splitted in Steim am Rhein. Later, just entering the city of Schaffhausen I helped another family by a flat tire. I had such a good feeling. Also the day was sunny and people were just happy on the street. Waterfalls on the river were so nice and fascinating. You need to see these live. Later on I had a lunch in the city and next to me I met a nice couple, him Nadim and his girlfriend. We had a nice conversation and exchange contacts. This day was all happening so spontenously. I was told that Zürich is not so far, so I called my friend there to meet her. She didnt answer, so I continued my way towards Schwarzwald. Somehow later I got to talk to her sister and she welcomed me. In the evening I joined the dinner at their home. 5 years passed that we saw each other.
The next day I continued my way towards Stuttgart. I assumed to have 2 days of cycling thru very nice nature of Schwarzwald with many hills. During the cycling I noticed that there is a bee fyling next to me with the same speed, I looked on my counter and it was 35 km/h. Very interesting. She insisted for another 30 seconds and then accelerated. Later I found out that they can fly up to 50 km/h and move their wings 40x per second. So for a short period of time I had a new travelling compagnion. Another interesting point this days was, when I descended on 18% slope with up to 82 km/h and in the middle of the way there was a speed limit for 50 km/h (village). Thangs God that police didnt stopped me, otherwise my licence would have gone  I tried to do as many kilometres a spossible on that day to have less of the last day. I followed the Hohenzoller cycling path that goes thru Stuttgart and futher. I finished cycling by 145 km and stopped by a nice young family and had a nice chat wth them late in the evening.

There was just one more day of cycling and around 120 km to Stuttgart. I crossed river Donau and Neckar that flows thru Stuttgart. First time during this tour I felt tiring legs. I was not in the mood to cycle, but as the nature was so nice I decided anyway to continue. Also the wind that day was so strong and as always into chest. In one small village I stopped and asked for the toilete and the man was so nice he did gave me also detailed map. Just before Böblingen I turned into one forest whose detailed map I was missing. And of course I lost myself. There were too many ways splitting and crossing. Somehow I managed later to find the way out after 3 hours. From this point on I had only a few more klometres to the center of Stuttgart. I hit my cousin Miloš in the  evening. He welcomed my warmly and could believe that I really managed to Stuttgart. He told me that in his 40 years of living in Stuttgart he doesnt know anyone who did the tour on bike. I was flattered.  It was not easy, but I enjoyed very much. In the next days I visited other two cousins Nadja and Bojana. On Friday evening I took the night train back home to Slovenia. I had to change train 3 times. Inspite of this I hit Maribor 12 hours later, a bit tired. As I was giving pressure off my back I began to eat more. I lost few kilograms during the tour.

As for the future plans, the project Around the world by bike is continuing in late August when I start an expedition from Maribor, Slovenija towards Damasque, Syria, Middle East.

Stay tuned and be part of it…

26.05.2009 Have you already eaten washing detergent? I did!

There are few days of cycling behind me. I have done the road along the river Mura up to its source. I began in Šentilj (SLO-A border) and followed the river up to the beginning. The first day, just before Graz I had to hide myself from the heavy rain and hail that was going on that afternoon. Later that evening I eat in the city and accomodated by my friend Franzi. I have done around 80km. The next day I woke up in the sunny morning and continued the way direction Bruck an der Mur, where first 60 km were beyond me. All the way to Bruck I cycled together with a cyclist Herbert and he was so kind telling me all about the surroundings. In Bruck its was noon and I was a bit hungry, so I searched for the bio-shop to buy some food. Later I visited a hydro power plant next to the road. My bike was still ok, without any major problems. The valley I was cycling was very beautiful, so do the cities and villages I was transpassing. They are recommended to visit when in Austria. People are generally nice, but you could feel some fear in them, like in many EU nations. People are worried and cannot be trusted so easy. The first incident was when I asked for the place to tent and they dismissed with a joke that the grasss hasn't been cut, but I tried by their neighbour and of course I became YES. I built a tent and cooked some rice. At the end I tried to drop some olive oil and accidentally pour some washing detergent. I had 2 chances, I took new or to eat. I was hungry to death, so I ate. If you ask, nothing happened. Later, I sleept like a baby after 110km.

The next day it was rainy morning but I packed and continued from Knittelfeld towards the source of the river Mura. The day was sunny and I had the chance to take some pictures of the real untouched nature. There are lots of museums, castles and other sigthseeing interesting points around. In Judenburg I visited Janez Puch museum, where bikes and passanger cars from 50s and on are presented. Puch was a great industrialist and inventor. Some of his bikes are still driven today. Later on I continued and it was very hot, so I had to drink lots of water which is essential to survive especially when you have extreme efforts like I have. Around 6-7 liters per day. In the same day just before I was looking for the tenting place I have got a flate tire, first time, since I started my cycling project and I know it is not the last one. I repaired and continued the way until St. Rupert where I stay in the tent by one farmer.

The next day it was again sunny, I had a long way to go. First I passed some nice villages and continued the way to the Mura spring. The valley that was closing to the spring is very green and peaceful, you could hear birds and echos from the mountain walls. I could not go direct to the spring because there was still snow there, but I was very close. Later I returned to St. Michael, 20km away where I ate and had some rest. It was late afternoon and I still had some cycling infront, namely passing the Tauern mountain pass (1800 m a.s.l.). Close to the peak it started to rain heavy and to hail. I had to wait for some while and continue later. The surroundings was beautiful, especially all these ca. 2400m high mountains around with still some snow on the peaks. I decented to another side to the city of Radstadt where the weather was again sunny and all dry. I found some nice accomodation with a balcony pointing to the mountains. Today I rest and accumulate some power for the next days of cycling. The round continues towards Garmischparternkirchen, famous skiing resort. Stax tuned.

Here we go, I completely recovered from the sore throat and I am ready now for the EURO tour that begins today. The path is not fixed but rough destinations are known:the source of the river Mura, Garmischspartenkirchen (famous Skiing resort), Bavaria and its castles, Munich and final destination Stuttgart in Germany. I will return to Slovenia by train. Around 1000 km is ahead and I am looking forward. Equipment is ready and also the main driving force - bicycle. I equipped it with the safety flag and added also the Slovenian one. Safety always first. Now I only need to pedal.

If you have a speeific wish , let me know and I will try to make it a reality.

All what is going on you will be to follow here on the site. Check regularly.

04.05.2009 You cannot battle against the nature

Probably you are asking yourself where on the way and in which country I am now. But, I must dissapoint you and tell you I am at home. The nature was stronger and kept me down to the ground. Last week of cycling wasnt much successful but I have learned much about me. First lumbago in my neck, then spectacular fall with the bike and on top of all a sore throat. All these kind of efforts demand a physically and psychically strong man and for sure I am not like this at the moment. That means I need to recover and recharge my baterries and the go on again.

Last week I went to Croatia to do some cycling and explore some of the nataure in Istria. Already on Monday I started the tour of about 300 cycling kms. After a good 15 km direction to Pula I had to stop because the pain in my neck, that was present already in the morning was so strong, I couldnt continue anymore. After few days when the pains was laready gone, I took the alternative and decided to explore Rabac and the surroundings with daily trips. The weather wasnt much like sunny, it was more rainy, but at least I meet some new nice people and had fun with them. Some locals invited me their wine cellar and your can only guess what happened afterwards. I visited a termal plant Plomin and historical par of the Labin city, where I had a nice view over the Rabac from the peak of the old church tower. The bike was working properly, at leeast something :-) The peak was reached when I attened some organised biking tour (uphill) in Rabac and found out this was a competition. Long time ago, I decided not to compete with others anymore and so I did, although I attended the course. At the end I got the second price :-)) At this event I met some new guys from Germany with whom I did some cycling afterwards in the afternoon. On the way back it started to rain again cats and dogs and the road were pretty slippery. Probably I run with a bit higher speed in the right curve just few houndred meters from the end. I crashed on that curve and rubbed some of my skin against the apshalt. These two germany friends (Mark and Andre) helped me to disinfect my open wounds and then we moved to the end where Romana (a medical sister, a wife of the third friend, who give for rent nice apartments
www.maremonti-istra.com) with her expertise helped me to clean my wounds and and gave me some bandages. The wounds looked pretty bad, but I had Romana and I trusted her to take care of me, so I was lucky.

It is true, that I havent falled so spectacular for some time yet, but what can I do, shit happends and the show must go on. The next day I was lying on the beach as I couldnt move much because of the open wounds. In my thoughts I was already preparing for the european cycling tour towards Germany. But look, the most interesting came when I came back home. A sore throat grounded me, so I had to pospone my trip on some time later (still in May). Everything has its own cause and so do this. The show wil go on as soon as I fully recover. Stay tuned.,

20.04.2009 Expeditions 2009, Again on two wheels...

Just recently I have successfully finished my first expedition thru New Zealand in scope of the project Biking Around The World and look who is here, spring, sun shines and the road, which is calling for more cycling kilometres. This year the project goes on already in May when I will follow the road over the mountains and valleys of the oldest continent on Earth – Europe. From the home town Maribor I start an adventurous exploration along the river Mura in Slovenia and following the longest part in Austria up to the source in Mur im Lungau (A). Furthermore, the road will take me thru Alps to the German side of Bavaria. Who knows where I am going to land when I cross the border. Around 1000 attractive kilometres are on the way during this expedition.

This was just a warming up for the Balkan-Orient Express Tour starting in August 2009. Your heard it right. I am taking the road from Maribor thru most of the Balkan states (ex Yugoslavia), over Bulgaria to Bospor gate to Turkey and all the way down to oriental Libanon up to the final destination – the city od Damasque (Syria). The tour is estimated to be around 3200 km.

NOW you have a chance to check all the details and other interesting things LIVE on TV this Tuesday on April 21st, 2009 at 5pm CET, RTS channel, Živa Show.

Let me know your wish in order to become my challange.
